Which holidays?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re here to cover all of those questions and more in this public holidays entitlement HR guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2022 Singapore Public Holidays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most years, there are eleven Singapore public holidays, spread throughout the year celebrating a range of religious and national holidays. These are joyous days for you and your employees to enjoy!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/fVuJb1cGAo_aR9ZRO5HvtP9fqLFZawAxZpYV_W-x0rREtxGdSOavkg2BvYyUlMHGguh4BIlzc9aPgbs-GIhTIUoe57SWGGt4VrusBsktg_b7ABL3hlQ5X8eucepxq3_gKKI28C2QfuCmF7IMn6C8qMQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As listed by the Ministry of Manpower, here are the eleven public holidays on the Singapore calendar in 2022:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>January 1:<\/strong> New Year\u2019s Day<\/li><li><strong>February 1-2:<\/strong> Chinese New Year<\/li><li><strong>April 15: <\/strong>Good Friday<\/li><li><strong>May 1:<\/strong> Labour Day<\/li><li><strong>May 3: <\/strong>Hari Raya Puasa<\/li><li><strong>May 15:<\/strong> Vesak Day<\/li><li><strong>July 10:<\/strong> Hari Raya Haji<\/li><li><strong>August 9: <\/strong>National Day<\/li><li><strong>October 24:<\/strong> Deepavali<\/li><li><strong>December 25:<\/strong> Christmas Day<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be a public holiday off-in-lieu.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Public Holiday Entitlement and Pay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your employees are entitled to their gross rate of pay on a public holiday if they weren\u2019t inexcusably absent on the day before or after the holiday and the holiday doesn\u2019t fall during approved unpaid leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a go-getter employee who winds up working on a holiday, they are entitled to an additional day\u2019s pay at the basic rate of pay, per the Ministry of Manpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your employee is not covered under Part IV of the Employment Act, you may grant them time off in lieu for working on a public holiday. The time off should consist of number of hours the two of you agree to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corporate Gifts on Public Holidays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve got the basics of holiday entitlement and pay, the next question is, \u201cShould we give <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giftmarket.com.sg\/\">employee gifts<\/a> on public holidays?\u201d It\u2019s a great question.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public holidays offer a great opportunity for you to honour your employees with gifts. As we\u2019ll discuss, many of Singapore\u2019s public holidays aren\u2019t exactly common gift-giving holidays, which gives you a great chance to really surprise and delight your team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of thinking, \u201cWhich holidays do I have to give my employees gifts,\u201d try to think in a mindset of, \u201cOn which holidays can I treat and honour my employees?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The added benefit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giftmarket.com.sg\/corporate-gifts\">corporate gifts<\/a> is the opportunity to throw your logo on it. Failing to give a gift on Christmas probably wouldn\u2019t result in any employees walking out on you, but many employees likely expect at least something.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a small team, consider getting personalised and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giftmarket.com.sg\/blog\/unique-gifts-for-employees-that-boost-morale-show-appreciation\/\">unique gifts<\/a> for each team member. This is a great way to wow them and create a special memory with your company. If you have a larger team, this might not be possible. In that case, consider something meaningful.
